Seriously this one pinch bolt is the only thing keeping the rudder out of Davey Joneses locker? Huh, mine has that plus the rudder shaft has a threaded hole in the top. There is a big washer up there with a bolt holding it on so if the rudder fell, it couldn't slide all the way out. And I have that collar like Derek.

I was thinking of tapping the top of the shaft and doing something like that

So nothing going on with SADEY... parts still laying on the floor. Dave, did you try to allocate what yer gonna need? Wanna re-assemble this w/o the help of the 18 YO exspurts? Been pretty brutal around here with no shop yet for side stuff. Once in a while we get a "fair" day and Ill get the table saw out and chop up the BOM (Bill of Material) list. Still a treat to get to the Roamer and take the jacket off. Sure hope winter lasts another 2 months !! Mite look like a SEA RAT but in the end will turn out swell. Ill still know whats underneath hahaha... Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Now that you got the wood all sealed, why not go back with the old sliders?

Hey SKY... the OEM style was always inefficient for sealing. Each pane took like 3 pieces of wood all cut at opposing angles with tons of screws to hold everything in from the top, PLUS all the sub assemblies in the bottom rails that were glued as one piece faile miserably. Its been an ongoing issue with old wood stuff for like 40 years now. It finally made its' crescendo with a total tear out and going in another direction. I know you realize, water and boats dont mix LOL!
A few years ago safety glass skyrocketed and each pane was about 75.00... times that now times 8 pcs. at probably 100.00 per and its a small fortune. Always the frugalist... Bill

I take offense to the sea rat comment, even in stages of repair they are beautiful vessels. MTW is waiting on the stuffing boxes so it’s on hold. I’m hoping to get up next week. I’ll be pulling the galley windows out to reseal. Possibly a replacement in the near future of one of the other windows. Who do you use?

Mr. SKY is the resident exspurt on that one. He's had good luck re-doing the OEM weather stripping with material from SAM's. The windows can possibly leak on that beautiful yacht can they? I have a local guy that does glass and has a million dollar plus collection of antique vehicles. Honestly one of the nicest guys youd ever meet too! So is MTW gonna make good on that stuffing box? Dont let them get you on a unit from Wun Fun Tung. We can repair that take out if necessary. I was gonna grab the bottom part off the floor to clean that up, but the top half is still probably inside the boat where Brent dropped it and cant reach it... boy oh boy! Let me know whatcha wanna do OK? I still cant believe they hacked that off. Hmmmm. All kidding aside, since the rudders were dropped (no hack marks on the stems either), the couldve gone in with a 4 inch socket on a ratchet and spun that gland off. Lets take a look when ya get back. Im there almost daily. Bill in TR

I bought a pair of boxes from Sam's, Alex gave me a great deal so at this point I'm committed. I'm trying to get there this week, depends on overtime availability. I'll let you know when I'm in the frozen tundra.
