Okay. August will be here WAY too soon. This year we are going WAY over to the other side. Traverse City to visit Bill's Dad at the bottom of The Bay of Traverse city. We have not made our plans yet but I am hoping for early August. Not sure of any other stops but we shall stop other places.
Sky, did they ruin Fayette yet? Last time we were there, or anywhere, was 3 years ago and couldn't tie up to the walk way. Had to tie up to the piling and got hammered by a storm.
Anyone going to be on the Lake around that time? ppat

They also removed all of the references and pictures of the child labor at the old mine and smelter. That may not be politically correct, but its history. It happened and it should be represented there.

I agree Sky. History is History. Don't hide what happened, make sure it isn't repeated.
And I was informed that it is not the Bay of Traverse City. Forgot what Bill said it is but something to do with west and East. Any way, we are going to visit Bill's dad.

So, we have a tentative plan. Two rivers to Leland then over to either Sutton Bay or traverse City. We shall probably rent a car at Sutton's so we can get around and stay a couple days. Coming back we are still trying to figure that out but not to worried. We are thinking the 1st part of August. Need to be back before the 15th.
Any suggestions for where to dock or what to see? I plan on looking to see if Hans Van Summerin is still at the College in traverse City. See if he wants to go out with us to visit Bill's dad. Sky, thank you for all your information. I know you know that area better then anyone around. ppat
p.s....keep it coming.

What is there to do at LeLand Sky? Anyone else familiar with that area? I will start calling Marina's tomorrow to see what the protocol is and what they suggest. Going to be a new and fun adventure for me. Bill has done most of it before. Leland is new to him and we hope to find stuff to do.

WOW!! Talk about hard times. Finally found a harbor in Leland. Sounds like a great place. Now to hook up with Sutton Bay and see if we can rent a car there. This is WORK.

Leland is a very touristy town. The marina is very nice but Russ, the harbormaster, gets a little anxious this time of year. Its supposed to be a "first come, first serve" harbor, but he keeps an "arrival list" and if you're not on it, you may not get a slip. So my advise is to call ahead and get on the list. We just spent a night anchored at South Manitou. We love it there, but this time we had a surprise. We awoke to thousands of midges covering the entire boat. What a mess!!

Other places to go: We like Leland. Its fun to sit by the dam at the Cove Restaurant and have a sandwich outside. But I think Suttons Bay is a much better town.
You may also want to go to East Bay and check out Elk Rapids. That is the best place on the Bay. The town is nice and their library is up on the hill overlooking the marina. You can also rent a little pontoon boat on Elk Lake and travel the whole chain of lakes through Elk, Skegemong, Torch, Intermediate, and Bellaire.

I'll be at Mackinac Island from July 19-22, then heading back south after that. Let me know when you leave and where you plan to be. Maybe we will cross paths.
