Hey Bill I jumped in late in this thread but have you thought about using a resistor and dropping the voltage to 24 or 12? I had to do that with some warning lights on my bridge.

Absolutely Chris!! I would do it inside the lower helm and re-volt all kinds of stuff down there. Actually, I have a 32-12 converter that would work for that. Right now I have 12 volts available for the radio stuff, but thats from a thats dependant on an AC charger (primarily for the new 12V head). I am considering adding a 12 volt alternator to one of the mains as well. We'll see how that plays out in another week or so when the BIG THAW happens here... the engine room is like a meat locker! ws

Bill, The halogens do give off some heat but I doubt they would melt your lenses. The fixtures themselves are metal, right? They look just like the nav lights on my boat.

Are LED's bright enough for regulations? Bill- mine are 32vdc fixtures wired 12vdc, using 12vdc lamps in those fixtures.

Thanks everyone!! Sorry guys... Im a little behind here.... The housings are all plastic including the lenses. They appear to be some kinda carbon fiber units; well built, but plastic nevertheless. I think for now since I am feeling behind the eight ball, I am gonna order one from SSSSSAMs (if karl doesnt ban me from there too!) just to get going. There are actually several voltage reducers in the helm(s), so a good 32 VDC in and a good 12VDC out should work. At that time I will change all the lites... ws

Bill,
I may have mentioned this on this thread beore, but I got serious CRS. Have you considered going to 24 volt lighting, bulbs are cheaper and easier to get. Take the voltage from 3 of the 4, 8 volts batteries to run the lighting.

Doesnt Jerry Lewis do a telethon for adults with CRS??? Seriously man, you sent that response on page one of this thred! I prefer the KISS method. For this round, I am just gonna bite sams weenie and spend the $20 on the one bulb, BUT NEXT TIME Look OUT!!! ws

I order bulbs for equipnemt all the time, like weekly, lots of time spent searching for old or foreign bulbs. I'll ask whenever one of the reps calls me or I am doing a search. When you get the new bulb, check for manu and parts number on the bulb. Sams is buying them somewhere, and a lot cheaper than they are charging. That's not a slam against Sams just a fact. I the adult telethon is for srs, not crs. LOL
