Sounded like a jet, but I'm sure it flew like a pig. IMG]http://i51.tinypic.com/sqk2mp.jpg[/IMG] ;D Have to remember that one, somewhere that will be a good line for some thing else! Just a small change to "Sounded like a jet, but flew like a pig".

Just a small change to "Sounded like a jet, but flew like a pig". I was going to say it that way myself, but I didn't actually see it go very far so it wouldn't be honest.

Every one I saw was turbo and they do have a great turbo whine. We had one of our boats in the water for engine certification. They started taking it apart before it was coming out to be shipped. I ran it without mufflers. Those Cummins QSB's have more turbo whine than anything I've ever heard. Every time I juiced it the dog started howling.

One of my customers likes to hang out at my shop 'cause he's retired and bored. He was in 'nam and gave me the info about the turbos vs naturals from then. He also said the 5 tons had a turbo engine and someone from the motorpool had swapped one into the deuce-n-a-half that they used. To coin a phrase: "Naturally", they had the fastest deuce-n-a-half around.
Boat noise: My Dad's boat was like that too until we put some insulation in the engine box. It sounded cool in small doses, but after a while the noise was kind of like a knife through the base of your skull. It could get up and go though. No pigs there.

Here's the closest thing I ever had to a Duece and a half. We bought her new in 1976. It was a concrete mixer and then we turned it into a 6x6 winch truck. It had a 6v53n, a fuller with double low and locking differentials. Sorry, no turbo. I'm sure it was one of the last Diamond Reos built. I sold it a couple of years ago to a farmer.

That's fairly Deuce-and-a-Half like. Cool truck, and I recognized that logo on the hood before you even said it. Haven't seen one in years. Oh, and with that Detroit I'm sure it did plenty of screaming even without a turbo. There used to be a lot of cool trucks out there. I remember a guy that had a Brockway with a 12V-71 crammed in it. He also had a fleet of Peterbuilts with 8V-92s. You could literally hear torque when they got on them.
