This week is 6 years since the stbd engine redone and back in service after almost 2 years of single engine trawlering the boat. Figured I would reset the rack and give a once over before summer vacation. Still looks pretty good.

Dave, that is offensively clean and presentable. I hate you almost as much as I hate Dan with his spotless gel-coated and painted bilges. Both of you guys suck!
Wait a minute.... you did a Pascal and single engined for several YEARS?!?!
Never mind, I don't hate you anymore.... Dan, on the other hand....

Wait a minute.... you did a Pascal and single engined for several YEARS?!?! Never mind, I don't hate you anymore.... Dan, on the other hand.... Don't hate me because I have a beautiful engine room. Hell I was one engined when it wasn't cool. Truth is I bought the boat in VA in Sept 02 . The stbd engine had three spun mains and coolant in the oil. Left the boat on the hard for the winter. [ had been 20 years since I had to winterize] Long story but ended up running the boat to FL on one engine @ 8.4 kts. Used the boat for local trips and did the boat parade on one engine for all of 03, then started tearing the old engine apart in Jan 04. The first two engine trip was Memorial Day weekend 04. Changed the engine right at my dock at the house, It took its tool on my back and ended up having surgery and no boating until fall 04.

Ouch! A high price to pay for boating. Were you able to save the block, or is picking that up where the back injury came from?

Ouch! A high price to pay for boating. Were you able to save the block, or is picking that up where the back injury came from? No the block was trashed. That was part of the delay. For a short time used DD parts went through the roof. I was looking at what I consider junk that they wanted 6,000 for. In Sept 03 I went with a friend who needed a 8v92 block to build to replace an exploded engine. I went along for moral support to FLDDA to look at a greasy rusty core. When asked if they had anything else, the response was not unless you want new. NEW, he got my attention. I looked up on the rack and two new silver 8V92's in crates. One was low output and the other was high output. I wanted the HO. The HO engine was a complete swing engine for a 777 jet start at the airport. The five year contract was up and he sold me the engine at cost 19,750 OUCH!!! The sales guru at DDA went item by item comparing the internal parts to mine. It was decided that all that was needed was to put my turbo's and injectors in as well as the marine components. Next week went to pick up the engine and as I unwrapped it like a kid on Christmas morning, I looked at the valve cover sticker. It said STD GT/ RET CAM. Retarded cams?? Spent the next 5 hours trying to get answers. Everyone said that "we never built a ho engine with retarded cams" To which I replied " how can I be sure" Here is the build sheet was the reply. But the tag... I say. We even talked to the woman who prints the tags. Finally after a couple hours we get an engineer at DD. He says no HO engines with ret cams, BUT I will try to put in a build order in for that serial #. I probably won't take as that engine is NLA. We get a call back, " the computer took the order and there is note about the cams that says BIR, built in retardation." SHIT. Had to tear the new engine down and change cams, flywheel housing, flywheel, rear seal, oil pan, turbo, injectors, t stat housings, filter adapters, blower to non bypass, remove aftercooler etc... I still have a bunch of new parts that I have not found a home for. And of course no warranty as we modified it. As far as my back, it was bad for 10 years, this job put me over the edge.
