"Finally" got to go for a spin Sunday. Starboard engine temp gage went to 240F but wasnt steaming out the pipes. Trust the gage?? Popped the hatch and it wasnt hot. After a few minutes I shut it down; just didnt sound right. Smelled paint burning and a CAT yellow manifold is now brown. Hmmm Cracked an exhaust manifold and more than likely burned up the water pump impeller. So we spent yesterday making a 300 mile trip to pick up a Mercruiser 330 exhaust set used for $300. Still looking for a replacement Merc water pump. The OEM is a die cast end with a plastic body... Toy stuff. Im looking to replace it with one of these. The OEM is about $250 and this from DEPCO is like $600/ Either way it sucks to get at. Manifold is coming off so the BOFG can squeeze in there... Let us pray... I am questioning my sanity!

If it makes you feel better, you're not alone. That sounds like the sort of thing that would happen to me.

My 32v bank is boiling. I ran a hydrometer through the cells and nothing really definitive. 2/3 of cells show 100% charge, 1/3 at 75%, and one cell at 50%. I think they're shot. After getting 13 years out of one set of Rolls and 9 years out of another set, I was really thinking this wouldn't happen at 6 years. Maybe its like everything else; made to a lesser quality.
So I went to Costco and bought 8 golf cart batteries. I know, I'm starting to sound like the rest of the cheapskates next door. But I don't start with this bank anymore. Its just a house/inverter bank now. We'll see how long these last. I'll have 50% more amp hours than with the Rolls.

I Just replaced a other set of 32 volt gc Batts after 3 years. It's not the best solution but when 32 volts is needed the choices are few.
Next time get a real inverter and use cost modern batteries.

But then I would need to change everything to 24v and that ain't happening. Lights, toilet pumps, windlass motor, wiper motors, water pump, blowers, etc, etc. I need batts and that is what was available. I can't wait 8 weeks for another set of Rolls. At least these are only 61 lbs each. Much better than the 128 pounders that I've got to lug out of there.

Without the hi draw starters the GC batts are the way to go for the house. They’re are designed to be cycled on a daily basis. I’ve got friends with the better Red case Trojans that have 7 years on them secret is to plug in every night and a good charger.

Taking a break from the house stuff and jumping in head first to change out the FW pump. Coming out next week and need it to winterize. A week from tomorrow the yard guys all go out on safari to Montana. Camping in a mountainside lodge to go mountaingoat hunting. Ill be all bundled up by then I hope. THEN theres the shrinkwrapping.

Soooo.... the S-I-L and I changed out the water pump. It only took three hours; 2 out and one back in. Fired that puppy up and it was spitting spray out the exhaust still. Hmmm. "Tex" the SIL's nickname mentioned when at rest the strainer is dribbling water. At best an old gasket let go, at worst, a cracked lense. These are GROCO 1500's that Scrod provided me with a few years back when he switched over to external types.
Along with the two complete strainers were two complete overhaul kits, but of copurse, I couldnt findem'. Par for the course. But wait, it gets better !!
Just to eliminate the whole strainer equation, I get a 90* hose el and place it in line in place of the leaker and VOILA! Good ol' reglar' flow out the pipes, so we go for a spin. This is 0700 and the lift is at 0800. A 1/4 offshore I start hearing what cant be true... That side (starboard) trans has no forward above idle. RYSM?? Doing some later research, it seams that the bullet proof Velvet drives have one issue for failure, and thats heat; RUH RO... Heard the same noise when we overheated a few weeks before.
So no "Woe is me's". Thats 33 years of good service from a trans that was installed used with about 20 hours on it in 1990. So I guess the trans, two or four cutless bearings, alignment and some rudder service aint too bad considering. I had to spit in the infidels eyes! Clutch kit and gaskets are about $200.
Robin (step daughter) is gonna wash the spider shit off her tomorrow before we shrink wrap. Poor bastard has suffered extreme neglect for the past three years and now I hafta get on it and remedy that issue... Anybody have a 72C velvet drive shop manual for sale? How bad can four bearings and 12 clutch discs be?
