That's on tap for tomorrow. I checked the ignition solenoid in the ER power box, and there is 34v on one side, so I should be able to jump across those lugs to start. The problem is between the start plunger switch, and the ignition solenoid. The schematic shows a small fuse in there, but it's not obvious.. ill start tracing the wire tomorrow.. it says it's after TB-3, but the terminal blocks behind the helm both say PH-1 and PH-2.. problems like this drive me nuts. TB should be in the engine room. Did you check all fuses in the box with the Guest switches?

I did check all the ceramic fuses and the big flat clear fuses in the ER power box. I wish I could post a picture of the wiring diagram here. The fuse is much smaller than the ones in the ER power box. Most of those are 20's or 50's. Im going to climb in behind the helm tomorrow and try to trace the wire, but the bundle appears to go into the box for the systems monitor. Going by harbor freight in the morning to buy a remote starter switch and jump the ignition solenoid in the ER power box so I have a way to start it.

I rummaged thru the shed today and found my old Sun timing kit.. remote starter, tach/Dwell meter and inductive strobe timing light... antiques now! Brought the remote start switch down, started the boat.. then got all the wiring schematic out, 3 sheets in all and found the culprit... It was me! I am a dumbass I am a dumbass I am a dumbass Although the transmission levers were in the neutral position, the sensor position on the port transmission was not, I cycled the port lever a few time and back to neutral.... Shazam! The MG514C definitely has a neutral safety switch, and it is clearly shown on CW-101-ED-3... always check the simple things first... Karl

Ive got a port side Morse Control on my Roamer that does that PLUS a bad spot on the solenoid. I hafta hold the key to "start" and swing the lever back and forth a few time to have it latch up and start. Goot Showw!

Go buy a remote starter switch you can jump it right on the solenoid I was going to go buy a China Man, Harbor Freight switch, but I looked in the Way Back area and remembered in my youth tuning up cars and found my Sun Electronic Tuning Kit... Tach and Dwell Meter, Strobe Gun, and Remote Starter Switch... jumping the ignition solenoid was easy, but ultimately the issue was the neutral safety switch... which I should have checked first.

Karl Don't beat yourself up, we've all had experiences like this. I will admit I had a similar experience on my last boat that cost me at least half a day on our extremely tight timeline delivery trip. I felt like an idiot but from then on I was sure to jiggle the shifters before starting. I'm on the fence as to whether I should connect the neutral start switches on the ZFs for my repower. It would eliminate this no-start problem but I know a marine mechanic who was working on a diesel powered boat with no neutral safety switches when an engine started (how I can't recall now) in gear with the throttle at full power. The boat was tied to the dock, he was in the engine room. Thankfully disaster was averted but I think he had to change his underwear.

I’m surprised how many times this comes up over on the HOF. I’m a disconnect all safety guy. They usually fail at the worst times. I saw in a porta potty when I first started working “isn’t osha a small town in Wisconsin?”
