Cool! I'll bet it's never done that before. I'm sure it hasn't. Tell Pascal I'm ready to race.

That's a good clip! What is a comfortable cruise speed with the new props?

That's a good clip! What is a comfortable cruise speed with the new props? Runs nice between 18 and 20kts

With the new power, I can run faster than before. This changes the response of the stabilizers. So, to adjust the sensitivity, I would need to go into the engine room and turn the screw on a needle valve in the mechanical gyro to adjust the gyro pressure. This pressure controls the rate of response for the fins. At slow speed it needs to be higher and the faster you go, the lower the pressure needs to be. If set too high, you can feel the fins over-correct back and forth at fast speeds so you find a happy medium and live with it. That was okay until now. Now the medium is both too responsive at fast cruise and not responsive enough at slow cruise.
The solution: Upgrade from the old mechanical gyro to the new digital controls that allow for sensitivity adjustment and trim adjustment on a nice little touch screen. Plus the digital gyro is a 3 axis gyro instead of just a 2-axis. And there is programming to deal with following seas that the current system has problems with. So, this fall right after the boat came out of the water I emailed Naiad and asked for a quote. No response, so I emailed another guy there two months later..........still no response. Another month goes by and I call the guy I usually deal with and he gets snippy and says he has seen my emails but he's busy and this is no small job and he'll get back to me. Another month goes by and I seek out other quotes. DMS Holland wants the job using their universal upgrade and the owner of the company even calls me from Holland (the country, not the town in Michigan). Wesmar also gives me a quote for their upgrade using my existing pump and tank and fins.
So, I give Naiad one more chance to take my money and I email the guy telling him I have two other quotes but would rather stick with Naiad. Same response--crickets. And I'm not going to beg them to take my money so I call Wesmar and ask more questions. They route me to their tech that has installed this system on several old Naiad boats. He is friendly and knowledgeable and answers all of my questions so I place the order for their DSC5001 upgrade. Its hard to believe Naiad is so busy that they can't be bothered to even quote this. Now if I ever win the lottery and buy a new boat, it will without anything Naiad.

I’ve been considering this upgrade myself. Craig at Stabilized Marine has been the point of contact. Is that who you tried to deal with? Also, what was the amount of the quote if you don’t mind me asking?

You didn't go Seakeeper? Absolutely no place for it. Plus they are way too expensive and use way too much power. I don't want to run the generator all of the time. Fin stabilizers are still my preference.

Also, what was the amount of the quote if you don’t mind me asking? I deal with Naiad directly in Connecticut. Don't ever use Craig for anything. My experience with him was the worst I've ever had ever in the marine industry. Call me for details.
