Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Government drives me crazy. No one can even begin to make this stuff up. Good luck.

SKY....Bill and I are just a figment of your imagination (nightmare). Just keep telling yourself...."it is only a dream, it is only a dream". And, when the SUB rises up out of the water and transforms into the Hatt Trick you will NOT be DREAMING!!!! LOL ppat

Couldn't you just get a sign shop to make an engraved plate, stick it to the transom, then trace it, then send it to the state? When I used to pick up Hatts at the factory, they would only engrave the HIN after they recieved the check for payment for the boat. The guy used to come down the dock and use a dremel to engrave the #. Can't you do one or the other with the factory HIN?

First why did the boat have to come out of documentation? If you know the HIN # why not just engrave it into the transom and do as Dave suggested to get a good professional looking imprint? That's probably going to be a lot easier than asking State employees to think.

First, the Sec. of State insisted it be taken out of Doc to license it. Bill has been trying to get some one to duplicate the numbers so we could trace a pencil copy. Not knowing what the originals looked like his only recourse was to ask Hatteras about how to do this, which led to Bradford yachts and on and on. It is almost as if it would be too much trouble to just give him the title and stickers. Last year they started screaming about the RUT tax...when Bill produced a copy of the check they came back with ...."We need to see both sides". Now he has done that and they want the pencil copy of the H I N numbers which don't exist anymore. Buying a house is easier than licensing a yacht in Ill. At least when you buy a house the realtor tells you that they will need this and that and prove this and then we will be able to help you. The idiots in Springfield, Il seem to decide on the day that they respond to the form as to what they will ask for. And that is after they have held the paperwork for 3-4 months. I reallly wish it was as easy as just having some one make a plaque for us but I would hate to have the Coast Guard board us and we do not have the proper license. I do feel that we are FINALLY getting somewhere with this Capt. that Bill spoke with. The guy that is supposed to inspect the vessel will be out on Tuesday and as we have dealt with him before this just may happen. Bill feels that what will happen is the guy will inspect all of the paperwork, check the numbers in the engine room and then sign-off on the H I N so we can get this done. Keep your fingers crossed guys!!! ppat

When you get boarded by some USCG zealot, all of a sudden its falsified. Its even worse explaining this stuff via a phone through bullet proof glass. Ya gotta remember, I AM THE ONE THAT WILL GET PINCHED!!! ws classic example of "PIMPS UP; HOs DOWN" what a name for a boat!!

By the grace of GOD, this will totally legitimize this boat once and for all. 20 years ago I was going thru divorce #2 and the witch was going to try and get my Roamer. That one was documented AND tagged, when I sold it to a friend for one dollar. That was easy. Buying that one back was a whole new odyssey. Since then our government has turned into a chapter from Superman comix... the Bizarro Planet!! ws en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarro_World

In popular culture The concept of "Bizarro" has been ingrained in popular culture where it has come to mean a weirdly mutilated version of anything, not confined to characters in DC Comics publications[2] and as such, so has the concept of Bizarro World. ws

I would just document that I tried 3 times. keep track of the letters and time involved and when they pull me over I will show the officer I tried and if necessary will do the same in court. If they do choose to take it to court think of the TV coverage that will follow.

So you end up with the document that replaces state title and a reg sticker for the state you keep the boat in. Brian
