Just a little teaser for now... Lots of finesse work, but nothing too overwhelming... ws

Damn is this place dead or what??? So Im gonna stir the pot about retro fitting the AC system on my Buick to use 134 refrig. Doing my due diligence, Ive come to find that a lot of the components (OEM stuff) is marginal with the change over even if converted from a working system. This system has had the condenser and drier remove and left open for 20 years. The old compressor still turns but that's all I can guarantee. With out reassembling the whole system and pulling a triple header vacuum test theres no way to check the rest of the sytems' integrity. I can see doing a whole job under the hood, but I really want to retain the factory dash appearance. Anyone have any experience retro fitting a classic car or do I need to step across the hall and call out Rosenholer? I really need to find a competent old Buick mechanic that was good with AC stuff 40 years ago... I sure as hell aint... ws

willy, the parts under the dash (evap core)can be used with 134a. the hoses should be replaced(the oils are not compatible)the compressor(other than age and being open for so long)should be ok to use with 134a. you might look for a retro fit kit with all of the components included, i'm sure someone make a kit for that model car. try vintage air, or classic auto air.

Thanks BB! I have contacted Classic Auto Air and await... They have two shops, one in TX and FLA. I know Im gonna hafta find someone to do this job as much confidence level is medium on an after market kit. Them Buicks are so much vacuum controlled stuff along with relays etc. that I hate to get in over my head! Im gonna see what they say and see if they can refer me up here... Hmmm to be continued. ws

Got Ppat out today and we buzzed around town in the Bad Lad... she got a kick outa driving it. It was a beautiful autumn day about 35F and windy but sunny! ws Nice ride! Next time maybe ppat sings less, dumps the secondaries and lets the 455 sing more.

I mentioned to Willy that my singing isn't very good and he politely tells me it was worse before I got the hearing aid. PPat will now sing only to herself( or at least when no cameras are around)....ppat

No offense to ppat's singing. I just want to hear that thing when you save up enough to burn down a tank of premium in 10 miles or less.
