Hey Bri-
Family went boat shopping in your neck of the woods looking for a 55-61' Hatt or Viking MY.
Saw a clapped out 61 in Miami, a so-so 58 in FLL and on a whim, Sat morning on our way to the AP, stopped by Hargrave Yachts and they put us on a 65' Hatt MY called RHO Boat. Family fell in love, and of course it was above my budget but wife still gave me the 'puppy-eyed "Pleeeease..."
You know anything about it? It's their trade and they have had it for just under a year.
edit - why can't I paste a link here??? Google "Yachtworld rho boat" and it will pop to the top.

That 65 SF owned by the Mass Maritime Academy should be ripe for the picking. Might be a nice boat in the mid 200's and she's closer to home. Rho boat seems too sketchy to me based on the listing and your post across the hall. Sounds like she hasn't Ben run much in the past 6 years. She is dealer owned so you might be able to pick her up cheap but she still may not be worth it. How was the paint and the ER?

I don't have a clue about any of it. All that boating stuff is part of a former life. Racing is my latest passion who knows what's next?

They have taken in a bunch of Hatt Motoryachts. Most of the boats are here in St Pete. As far as the white interiors, After you are on a light interior for a while then go to a dark interior It will look very dark and small.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I thought you were a fan of the dark wood as most are on the HOF. White may be a tad stark, but it actually looked pretty good in those pics. I remember looking at 70CMY with light ash and one with the darker teak at a FLIBS show several years ago, and the light ash boat felt twice as big. No mirrors necessary.

I'd have to agree with that. Most of the wood in my boat is water/P.O. damaged and a lot of it is covered with light wallpaper. And yes, it does feel larger and "airier" with the light colors.
Having said that, I can see why people aren't fond of the pickled white interiors. It doesn't look like real wood. I prefer the look of a nice wood grain, but given the choice I'd choose something besides mahogany or teak which is very dark to start with. The other problem I've noticed with oiled woods is that the oil darkens over time. Maybe varnish or urethane is an acceptable alternative that allows the use of traditional woods while keeping them as light as possible.

Yes, I have the afromosa on mine. But I would not turnaway a light interior boat if it is done well.
Back when we were doing Hatt deliveries and i was on a light Ash or similar boat, You got used to it and when you go back to the afromosa, It looks dark.
The issue was that the light wood would get worn and dirty as well as sticky. It could not be repaired only painted. Most of the vintage MY'S have be redone.
A friend of mine has a 1995 70 CY.I really like it. I have run a number of 65MY and like them. A lot of upkeep! If you want it get it. I have a lot friends getting sick and unable to keep their boats. Do it now!

We HAVE to do it now. Wife and I are in out late 50's and fairly fit. Time has a way of changing that. When we can no longer manage the boat we'll sell it and by a condo on the ICW.
So if anyone knows of a sweet deal to be had on a well maintained MY suitable for live aboard, let me know. My wife is buying.

They want big bucks and Momma Bear wants a MY. Rho Boat seemed pretty clean and SeaEric called me today saying it has a lot going for it. At 350k, it IS pricy. But an offer of 225-245 would be well received. Paint in the ER? It was fine. Still had some shine on the engines with no noticeable soot or rust.
