Okay, just so I don't fall into the "Internet Expert" category, and despite everybody's boats looking a lot better than mine. Here's a few pics to prove that I do, in fact, actually do work on my boat. Before: The rudder shelf. Note the 2X4 propping up the end because it is so rotted. When I took it out I discovered that the tabbing was all broken. so besides the rot, the boat had taken a hard shot somwhere in it's life. During: Laid up two pieces of 3/4" of fiberglass in a mirror-image mold then epoxied the two pieces together with a lap joint. Picture here shows laying it out for rudder holes and support legs. Note the 1-1/2" molded-in stiffeners. After: Still a work in progress, but you can see the shelf and rudder supports in place. I also made a new tie-rod that is adjustable. Bringing the rudder toe-in from almost 5" down to 3/4" increased speed by 7 kts. Still lots to do and tons more to document, but a good sample to start with.

O.K heres some pictures of the shaft tube job. See the inner tube inside the other tube. So how does one get it back to original dia. You make your own boring tool ;D I need to get more pictures Of the other pieces I made. One for when it started coming out of the bottom of the boat. Also made a sanding drum to the right dia to sand the I.D nice and smooth. Then I dragged a wet rag of Inter protect throught the tube for a few coats. Also had two bushing for the extension since it was almost 2 ft long that had to be opened.

Nobody except me ever accused me of not working on it. But since there was an observation about some "experts" never posting pictures I thought I would get ahead of that one. Dan, nice setup on the boring bar. I probably would have done something simple and clever instead. Why did you have to re-sleeve the tubes? Isn't there a cutlass bearing in yours, or was that f-'d up?

Nobody except me ever accused me of not working on it. But since there was an observation about some "experts" never posting pictures I thought I would get ahead of that one. Dan, nice setup on the boring bar. I probably would have done something simple and clever instead. Why did you have to re-sleeve the tubes? Isn't there a cutlass bearing in yours, or was that f-'d up? No cutlass in mine So P.O had problems I think the mounts were shot and the motors dropped and wore away at the bottom of the tubes. So they epoxied new tubes in to clean it / seal it up. So I figured it was bore it out or cut them out and replace the hole tube. They are glassed to the bottom and bulkhead and go under the tanks so were talking Major PITA. I figure that I had nothing to lose. I was worried about having big voids from air pockets but I got Lucky . When I was done back to original size & smooth actually a little smaller then original. So it works fine but no room for error so I can't let any Yard monkeys align the motors which is fine by me!
