Right, I understand that. But in their manuals they have specifics about which port you're supposed to tap on their propulsion engines. Not so with their generators. I can figure it out by tracing the coolant flow path, but I was hoping somebody already knew the answer.
On my boat it had been tapped off the cooling jumper between one of the exhaust elbows and the manifold on the mains. Very sloppy, since CAT has guidance on where the taps are. I can tell you they ain't in the exhaust system. Plus, the newer elbows don't have the jumpers anymore.

If you go to the other site you will get 30 + unimformed opinions with a total value of $.02.
My suggestion is to tap in after the thermostat and before the heat exchanger if possible. That keeps the temp running at the thermostats control.

You'll notice I didn't ask over there. ;D
That's were it will end up, most likely, at the heat exch inlet. I was just hoping somebody had done it before and knew of a tap or jumper like they have on the propulsion engines. Thanks for the input.

I say don't bother What size is it and what else will you be running I find I need it as load but mine is a 8K. That looks like at least a 5.5K also then a light load it may take for ever to heat up?

It's a 7.7kW. It should heat up fast enough if it's running the electric element in the water heater and an A/C unit or two. My thinking is that the highest demand for hot water will be when showering which is probably not going to take place when the mains are running, but it's likely that the generator will be. So the Westerbeast is a logical supplement to the electric element.
I still haven't decided on this. If the plumbing gets too bulky or causes other complications I won't bother. The admiral and I will have to shower together to save hot water. ;D

The admiral and I will have to shower together to save hot water. ;D Well when it is running just on Electric I never run out of hot water. You can always increase the watts of the element. Plus remember if your on generator your on the hook so water is also limited. So it not like free flow most times but even if I do still plenty of hot water. More hoses and tee's more places for leaks! Remember KISS

I don't have the manual in front of me, but their website says 10A so the math says 1200W. edit: In keeping with the picture theme, and so the hijack isn't too abusive; a picture of the green goo in the heat exchanger. While most of what was in the engine was either crystalline or liquid, the antifreeze in the heat exchanger had formed an impenetrable gel.

Trivia question> How many Hoffman starter cartriges were carried onboard in "flight of the phoenix"? ws Seven. Watched it again a few nights ago. The original Jimmy Stewart version that is. Never could figure out why they re-made it. Aren't there some bad movies they could have fixed instead of trying to "improve" that one?

Okay. Here's some for Bill and Krush! Cooper-Bessemer Diesel generators at customer's site: Missed this post and pics! Where and what are you doing for the "customer"? I'll have some cool new pics in a month or two. I'm starting a new gig at the power authority. Lots of different juice makers on this island including 45mW slow B&W ship diesels. Their steam plants are tea-kettles LOL 70mW or something.
