Miss Geico Racing Boat catches fire and sinks off of Sarasota Fl Geico's racing boat burst into flames at 5:30 p.m. Saturday 250 yards off of Lido Beach. No one was hurt in the accident, and boaters were reportedly seen safe and swimming around in the water. The boat was running the course, preparing for Sunday's 2012 Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix event when Miss Geico caught fire. It took firefighters 30 minutes to put out the fire, which was fully involved when the fire department's boat reached the scene, according to SNN Local News 6 Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles as it burned offshore in the water. The was being towed to the 10th Street boat ramp in Sarasota. Geico will still participate in Sunday's race, as the company had planned to enter two boats.
