I got a 2003 honda 25hp long shaft (4stroke obviously). Came on a 15ft carolina skiff style boat I bought and is too underpowered. I had to clean/rebuild the carbs and I'm going to do the water pump on it. Runs good and starts right up now. Who knows how many hours, but looks like it may be used decently.
Lower unit is leaking oil out and water in. Seals look to be about 30-50bux in parts and I was going to do it when I put a new water pump in (all seals...prop shaft, shift shaft, input shaft).
If there any interest I'll post pics.
I'd like $1500 with new lower unit seals, $1300 as is (I'll give you water pump kit).
If I put it on craigslist I'd list for 1800.

Is this fair price for listing to the public?

The price is fine but You wrecked the deal with all the work done, and work needed. Sounds like a million hours on a honda. The long shaft in a 25hp, ain't helpin either.
People buy honda outboards because they think they never break and Your killing that illusion.
Fix it first, run it for a while to confirm the fix, list it for $2000.
My opinion, Kiwi

Just being honest and upfront. Don't like it, don't buy it. Carbs were gunked up from sitting, so I had to remove and clean them (and thus put in all new parts).
Water pump is a maintenance item...is it not?
Leaking lower unit...well could be tons of hours (which may be the case) or could be it was driven though silt...or could be who knows. Which is the reason for price adjustment.
Parts wear as stuff is used...Honda or not. What is your point?
Seeing as though I spent a few years fixing outboards for a few pennies every two weeks, I can say work is done correctly (with OEM parts to boot!)

The average buyer will not be impressed by work done by someone who is not a dealer with a nice smelling office complemented by a floral arrangement. If they're buying something from an individual they want to hear it's always run great all I ever did was change the oil.

Is this fair price for listing to the public? This post makes Me Think that You wanted to sell it. People who buy stuff on craigslist dont want to know what I want to know. They want it to work and they need to Think that they got a deal. . . . Nothing else matters. That just the way it is, and that is My point. Kiwi
