There are some local guys I know here who could paint it fairly reasonably...They do Awlgrip/Sterling brush jobs that you couldn't tell weren't sprayed...Plus you get better coverage (mill/thickness) Steve~ Define fairly reasonably. I keep seeing guys spending $1K per foot for a spray job, and I just don't ever see that being an option for me even when everything else is fixed.

My friend just got his 40 something foot Bertram Awlgriped for around 10K. He hired a guy that spayed for $40 an hour then some other guys to prep and sand. It came out nice not perfect but very nice. Spraying is the cheapest and best way to go but you've got to have a place to do it. Around here there aren't any yards that will haul a big boat and let you spray it.
Brush and tip you can do in the slip and there are yards that do it with great results but it is time consuming.

I'd have to check with them to be sure, but I agree with Brian and think you could get the topsides done (which I believe is all this boat needs to start) for somewhere around that 10 grand figure at your dock... If the marina wants a piece of it to work there in a slip, it's a slightly different story...But last I heard, there are some of the local guys that rent slips under cover just for this purpose, but due to other boats around, they are not allowed to spray. To me, brush & tip is no more time consuming...actually it's probably less...Prep is the same, but much less masking...Again another story for both spray & brush if all hardware is removed (& reinstalled) but with spray there is still more masking.
I read I think in the other forum, that this 53 could be had for 25K...That sure gives you some room for painting, interior varnish & gen set assembly....
Personally...I can't much see how anyone could get hurt buying that 53 MY @ 25K....I'd buy it if my circumstances were different.
But I also have an "In" with the A/C guy ;D

If I had not bought two motorcycles last year I would get a check wrote out for $25k on that 53'.
The 61' I would love to get at a take it or leave it offer, I don't think anyone is going to buy it unless they plan to make it into nothing more than a permanent liveaboard and just towing it around. It would take at least $125k to get it sea worthy again, but all that space!
18' beam...makes me just go into a daze thinking of the possibilities, I would have to make a wood working shop nearby and get a line on decent stuff but then again a whole lot can be had from the big box stores nowadays.

the 61 would be tough to justify. Looks like you could drop 500K in her without batting an eye. The 58 might be OK if you can do the carpentry yourself. Having fresh paint is a nice selling point, even if it's dark blue. I would have to go with the 53. If the machinery is sound then it could be worth doing. If you can get her going with some routine maintenance and minimal financial out lay, then you can use her while you fix and upgrade. The paint could be a deal breaker. If she is really tired it may not be worth it. Then again if you can do most of the work yourself, it could be an opportunity to get into a boat that might otherwise be out of reach.
Interesting that the 61 and 58 are in the same yard and next to each other.

A guy in our club just had his 44' MY painted top to bottom for 18K! unheard of in NJ. Definitely not the best job but she looks a whole lot better than before. No comparison to a 45K paint job but he felt the boat didn't justify the cost. My 46C needs paint and those numbers sound tempting but I'm not sure I could live with the results.

I was wondering what became of that 61. They made it into the lift pit and it sank right there. I see that 53 sitting behind a house in Culbreath Isles. They used to do charters with it. Mostly sunset cruises.
Agree that the 53 is the best deal.

I took a look at the 61. Forget it even as a gift. It's the one I thought it was that sunk in one of the 05 storms. It's been torn apart completely with no concern about ever putting it back together parted out I guess. It's a shame I looked at that boat before it sunk and it wasn't bad. If someone had got on it right after sinking it could have been saved but not now.
