The fan for one of my units is growling at mid range speeds. I thought after 34 years one of the fan motors was on It's way out. Weird thing is it only does it on shore power. Run it off the genny and all is quiet. Only change I've noticed is that my shore power is giving me 125V per leg and the genny is putting out 120V. I have confirmed the voltage with a good multi meter and the boat's meters are dead on. Any suggestions? Could 5V make that much of a difference?

The extra five volts is also a few extra hurts (Hz !) After 34 years at 60 cycles, stuff wears a bit and it probably has developed some "cyclic harmonics". A few rpm changes that and gets her to shut the heck up. Change them bearings! So dont knock it! We are on a 220 V window shaker with 4 fans all over the boat. We are starting to get some shades put up which really helps too!! ws

If I set the fan speed to manual I can eliminate 90% of the noise. I'll tear it down when the weather cools down a bit.
