Hate bothering the experts once again, so please forgive me. I rafted up with some nice boats this weekend, and the guy on my port politely asked if I'd shut off my generator because it exhausted right beside one of his staterooms (where someone was sleeping) 80'Horizon.. so I shut it off and fired up the Ohno MDL4 that exhausts starboard... In the morning I discovered the Stanadyne DB2-4257 had a diesel leak... not at a fitting, but at a seam where the injector pump body is joined.. so, I'm sending it off for rebuild, I took off the drive gear cover and pulled the gear... but before removing the pump, I read I'm supposed to line up the timing marks. I removed the triangle shaped timing mark cover plate.. and I see the fixed mark... so do I bar the engine over until a mark on the right side shows up?

Right away everyone blows us off until they need something. Why hell, some people dont even acknowledge birthday wishes LOL (sense the sarcasm??).
Well at least ya come to the right place for a good answer by golly! You really should swing by once in a while just to comiserate too, right? I finally sold the sub, but one of the big jobs left to do was finish up on the generator move into the lazarette. The side discharge was a poor plan on Hatteras's part for exactly the reason you pointed out. Even at anchor, that exhaust has to travel the length of the boat, PLUS the soot now emblazens the side of the boat. Thats a lose/lose situation to me Mine wouldve put it out the transom and be gone. At anchor, its always gonna be on the lee side.
Scrods gonna be by in a while to answer this one. Howd that in frame job turn out? Now go back to June 18th (!) and read yer messages! Good luck with the Oman! job...

Yes, turn the engine until the marks line up before you remove the pump.
Send the pump to me and you'll get a significant discount on the rebuild.

Good luck with the Oman! job... The inframe went well.. my first on a V71, or any diesel for that matter. Did have to replace a blower almost immediately after the rebuild (brief runaway)... but no issues since. (200 hours).. thanks for the birthday wishes.. I try not to post anything I need a real answer to next door... too many "experts" over there.. initially I was going to pull the Ohno after I installed the Kohler.. but the Ohno keeps on chugging and the Kohler has proved to be less than reliable (too many electronic to fault out).. This DB2 is an obsolete model, but I think I can get it rebuilt..

Found the proverbial youtube video... had to put the gear back on and wrenched it over to line up the marks. Pump is off now.. what's your address.. I recall it's East Coast Diesel Service.. Thanks Derek

East Coast Diesel Service, Inc. 22 N. Prospect Ave. Lynbrook, NY 11563 Thanks Derek! It's boxed up and I'll UPS it to you in the AM. It was working fine but dripping fuel at the bottom where the fuel nozzle turret slides into the pump body. I'll call you with the CC number. Thanks again. Paul

And just an FYI to anybody interested... the pull bolts for the pump drive gear (mdl4) are M8 1.25.. guess they went metric for awhile.
