If it was my boat, I would prime with Awlrip 545 primer and paint with Imron Elite single stage.

Sorry. The last time I used Imron was about thirty years ago on vehicle parts. However, I'll be following this closely since I'm going to have to do something about the pig pile at my dock eventually.

story i was told is that the guy who invented awlgrip sold to akso nobel and started alexseal. alexseal was designed with the new govt regulations where awlgrip has modified their recipe to fit regulations as did imron. i dont know if this means anything? i think most new builds are using alexseal

It comes as a basecoat/clearcoat, but I have them mix it as a single stage so its more like the old stuff. The hardener is different as well. The formula is all new but I thought it sprayed well and I've been happy with how its held up so far.

What are you paying for a gallon of imron and activator?

I generally deal with Jamestown since any order over $200(?) includes free shipping. A "GALLON" of AwlCraft 2000 (paint, activator, Primer, acivator and a gallon of reducer is about $650. Comes with two paint sticks and a paper mask hahaha..
Gonna check on AlexSeal... did several years ago and they were high as well. Just did some math and a "gallon" of AlexSeal applied is up around 1200!
Imron was the automotive Post Laquer stuff. I remember mike pussy used to use that with Mount Gay Rum, He'd make smoothie mojitos LOL. (Theres a pound of sarcasm in there). He was another HOF armchair admiral.
In the big picture, the "gallon" figure is for comps. Ill likely need 1-1/2 gallons for the job. Looking into IMRON stuff next.
Keepem coming guys. This is being done outside under the bigtop of course, and snowblindness is an issue too! THX!!

Well, so far we are back to Interlux INTERTHANE. Thats the substrate so a sanding should do it for the most part. 5 quarts (kits)thinners and a qt. of primers with 6 qts of NON COPPER bottom paint for $930.00. Last paint job was 2013 and its doubled +++.
Also trying to fing some Brown or Mohogany colored caulk as in UV 3000 or 4200 or even 5200 for a deck house to deck joint seal. Even after the whole new window job last year, theres still a substantial leak so its time for a REAL band-aid. That means cut in with the oscillator 1/2 inch, mask, and pack the shit outa it. All Ive been able to find is white or black. Must be Racine LOL...

We did some work on a friend's boat with imron marine. Sprayed great. Lousy roll and tip. But it's buff able.
Price was about the same for all 3 major brands.

The last sprayed awlgrip job lasted 25+ years, and the last few we buffed in with finesse-it and it looked good for that year. By next spring it needed it again. That went on for 3 years with a fresh Interthane job post mortem. She just needs it again.
