i asked about using awlwood over epifanes and the distributer told me NO it would soften the epifanes. i'll keep epifanes on the salon doors and the rails will be awlwood. this stuff is so shiny that with the second coat without sanding it is very hard to tell what is dry and what is wet. i kinda put it on heavy to make sure i got it all but doing so i made some runs. i think i am going to stick with sanding between coats. these rails were bare and grey when i bought the boat and i left them that way so it is a lot of work getting them back in shape If that's the case, maybe I'll look into brushing the MS1. It seems to work great over Epiphanes when sprayed. But I have never tried brushing it.

had to sand a bunch, wood left to the elements without varnish for 16 years that i have hed her plus however long before i bought her. they were bare except some varnish on the underside so i'm guessing 10 years before i bought her was the last time the rails were finished.
