had a bunch of little bubbles in my first coat, sanded and put a second coat and i have some bubbles but not as many.. any ideas why? my thought is the distributer sold me the tropical climate awlwood clear gloss because i bought it in the middle of summer,95 degree heat, 90 percent humidity. well i just got around to doing the rail and it is 65-70 degrees with low humidity. gotta go pick up some more on tuesday so i will ask then

My daughter is an expert on bright work. It’s all about the brush. Need to part with the big bucks.

Could the wood be gassing?

happens in the shade and the sun, both sides of the boat.. a friend that paints cars called it chemical pop...the top layer is drying too fast and then forms a bubble when the chemicals below it try to escape....i guess that is what you mean by off gassing

I may have to try it. I've been spraying Imron MS1 clear for the past few years. Most everything has been done; nameboards, doors, etc. But I have never done the rails. The other stuff as removed and sprayed at home in the spray booth. I can't do that with the rails so they've remained varnished. Maybe I'll try Alwood on those. Can you coat over varnish? That's what I do with the MS1. Oh, and we need photos of your work

i asked about using awlwood over epifanes and the distributer told me NO it would soften the epifanes. i'll keep epifanes on the salon doors and the rails will be awlwood. this stuff is so shiny that with the second coat without sanding it is very hard to tell what is dry and what is wet. i kinda put it on heavy to make sure i got it all but doing so i made some runs. i think i am going to stick with sanding between coats. these rails were bare and grey when i bought the boat and i left them that way so it is a lot of work getting them back in shape
