gonna try to make this as short as possible... 2 banks of 3 group 31 batteries, batteries are going bad and charger is running constantly, 1 bank of batteries is getting hot (145 degrees) i shut the charger off and let the batteries cool down, the next day i checked them and both banks are dead, turned the charger on and the meter jumps to 60 amps and there is a popping sound coming from the charger, i look in the engine room and see a flash coming from the charger when it pops. i shut it down..... replaced both banks of batteries, and flip the breaker for the battery charger and i hear the popping noise so i shut it back down. ran out of time so i couldnt pull the cover of the charger to see what is popping.
any ideas what to look for? gonna pull the cover in the morning and see where the popping is coming from..can i get parts for charles chargers? is it time for a new charger? the charger i have was in the boat when i bought it 16 years ago so i dont know how old it is. it is a 3 bank charger and i am only using 2 banks.
batteries are 5 years old
