I hate the salt. I wish they could use something else for ice melt, or just use it less often. Most of the time they just waste it when its not even necessary.

Pa has gone to brining the roads before any hint of a storm. It soaks into the roads and takes a long time to wash away. I think the moisture problems come from warm fronts moving up the Appalachian mountain range.

This is a minor thing, but while I'm waiting for the injectors to come back from the cleaners I adjusted the fit of the rubber gasket that sits on the air cleaner (that's the inner ring). It was starting to swell up a bit and was coming unglued. I didn't want to start searching for one, so I shortened one end and added another joint to the opposite side and removed some material there before re-gluing it to the very nice, but much-maligned cross-fire injection air cleaner housing. It's magnesium and really light for a metal part that size. Hopefully it doesn't catch fire. I ended up removing about an inch of material in total. That's where she sits for now until the injectors go back in. I used the manual and a test light to sort out the health of the fuel pump's electrics and it looks like we're good to go. Once I get it so it can move under it's own power I'm going to take it out of the puddle it's parked in and clean out the acorn stash and compost. I'm probably going to have to pull the starter since it doesn't engage the flywheel reliably. Hopefully it just needs a cleaning from sitting so much. For now I'm hoping to invest as little as possible until it's on the road. Then I can see what I'm really up against. Oh, the other thing is that it keeps trying to lock itself. Now that I have the book I know where the lock electrics are and I can chase that down. Once I solve that bafflement I can leave the battery in it and connected on a maintainer. That will make things easier too.

For what a starter removal and clean is gonna cost you in skin and time, Id R&R with a rebuilt before it tears up the ring gear.

The R&R time is a wash either way, and the goal is for the annual maintenance and repair budget not to exceed the purchase price. However, if an inspection once it's out reveals anything questionable it's going to my starter guy.
I'm picking up the injectors tomorrow morning. If things go better than usual she should be moveable and I can get it into a spot to get the starter and the squirrel buffet out.

I remember burning the little magnesium strips in chemistry class in high school. I can still see spots.

I remember burning the little magnesium strips in chemistry class in high school. I can still see spots. I got even with an asshat dude in high school and did that trick to the locks on his car. Had the last laugh that time, AND, still see spots LOL...Hard to get going and impossible to put out!

When we were kids a fr of mine swiped some from the chem lab at school. I had a group of friends that the most used phrase was “what do you think would happen if…..” we tacked the magnesium to a telephone pole lit it and ran. We were all highly disappointed that the pole was still there the next morning with just a black streak.

Happy New Year guys. Well, one thing I don't have to worry about is body rust. I think I mentioned the guy down the block from my mom with the '65-'67 or thereabouts C2 convertible. Thing is sinking into the ground and was underwater. I'm sure the only thing salvageable is the fiberglass. If I was a guy who had time and money it's the sort of thing where you'd build a tubular chassis to fit the body around. Everything else would just be performance parts. Actually, if it has a VIN,... that's what's valuable about it. Corvette is momentarily parked until it's not 19° out. Then I'm pulling the starter to see why it takes ten tries for it to pull in. I'm hoping to get away with just a cleaning or a Bendix. The goal is for the annual repair and maintenance budget not to exceed the purchase price. Also, once I get it to start reliably I need to pursue the registration paperwork. No point in putting any more into it until I actually own it.
