Now that I’m back home for good I’m trying to figure out what to do about paint on the boat. I painted it last myself and 2 helpers in a shed in NJ 1980. Took 15 gallons of Imron bootstripe to bridge. I’ve got airpiped to the dock and a large compressor in the shop. I’ve painted the cockpit multiple times over the years and other parts but it was always spraying Imron. I haven’t bought Imron in the last 15 years so I understand it’s not what it used to be. Thinking about trying the roll and tip.

Roll and tip aint spraying, but itll look better than dirty weathered stuff. Temperature, humidity, direct sunlight and THINNING all play into the pic. We finished up after dark, and it got cool outside which changed the the speed of the application and thinning the material etc. Literally like night and day LOL. Only have a few minor sags which will get sanded and buffed this winter. I painted that ol' Buick 2 years ago with a gravity feed HVLP gun and it was way easier and less messy that a suction gun FWIW. Way less air too. Even up here, DRYING the air is a constant struggle. Ive been using INTERLUX perfections. The price is right (well almost) and if you need a quart of thinner, the stuff is readily available. AWLGRIP lasted me 25+ years, even with buffing (sorry mikepussy), but it started to get thin. Honestly, do the math; Get another 20 years outa a paint job and youll be 80, watching the kid take off for the bigguns' from yer rocking chair. Attachment Deleted

Call me and I'll get you I. Touch with my imron rep. Roll and tip sucks. Not a good substitute for a clean spray job.

I've sprayed the new Imron Elite. It comes as basecoat/clear coat or single stage. We used the single stage for my stripes and it seemed to be similar to the original Imron. I would not roll/tip if you have the ability to spray.
