We went out junking today and found one of these which altho not the latest model, looks really good. Would it be worth it to swap this for a 1960 (!) LaMarche antique? Its a Promariner Pro Sport 12 two bank smart charger. Thoughts? No wise ass comments please LOL. The antique does have a slight hum to it, and the only charging rate is adjustable by changing bus bars on a few posts. Right now its steady at about 2 amps. Periodic use over the winter keeps the batteries topped off, so it works OK. Thoughts? Value?? www.promariner.com/en/42026

Also got a few 12VDC pumps for the potable water system. A nice heavy duty Raritan with an integral pressure tank, another unit with an integral strainer, and a nice (the brand eludes me) AC circ pump. The stuff all looks pretty nice. Pics tomorrow.

That old LaMarche is still doing what its supposed to do... That was off a 1960 or 1961 38 CC Commander SF in about 1989. Just a set it and forget it unit. So I guess Ill just forget it for another 30 years. Its just BIG and weighs a ton! ws

Worst thing I did was educating my chargers. I think this POS Charles is teaching them critical race theory. It’s cooking them out. Should have never got rid of the sentry

Should have never got rid of the sentry I've had the opposite experience. My smart charger has kept my Rolls going for 13 years+. I won't ever go back. The equalization charge alone will get you several more years out the batteries.

I can't speak to the particular chargers you're talking about, but since I started using the $5 battery maintainers from Harbor Freight I've stopped killing batteries on a wholesale level. It's amazing what a difference a little attention makes.
Although, one of them did cook a fairly new 8 D on me. Now I check the cheap @$$ Chinese Ps.O.S. with a voltmeter every week.

The maintainers work. Up in Pennsylvania we had multiple pieces of lawn and maintenance equipment would sit all winter end up with dead batteries every spring. I started using the for real maintainers and was getting 5-6 years out of them. The Harley I have in Pa which I ride all winter has a maintainer I get 7 years out of which is pretty good for a. mC batt

The little pro mariner is not enough for a real boat. I think you need at least 30 amps. If you were diesel powered I'd have a great victron solution. 3 bank 30 amp smart charger under $200.
