I'm looking to get another motor home it needs to be class 8 truck based. Most of them are built on a Freightliner chassis with a Mercedes MBE 4000 engine. Year will be around 2006 so no DPF or DEF but probably will have EGR. Anyone know anything about them?

You can pick them up cheap and they're way overbuilt. 2009 was the last year built, but most agree that the best years were mid to late 90's and early 2000's. Many sold new for over $1M but can now be purchased for 60-90k with under 100,000miles on them.

Wish I could help, but I know nothing about them. But I'm curious! Did you ever get the truck based motorhome/hauler or were you still using the semi-truck?

Yes I sold the class A and bought a United specialties built on an 01 Freightliner with a Cummins N14 I still have it. I'm selling it because it's to big and we no longer use it for trips I only use it for racing and it's just one kid and me so we don't need all that. So I'm getting something shorter single axle low mileage fully automated transmission.
The year range will be 2001 to 2007 I want to stay away from early DPF DEF trucks because they're trouble. So popular engines are Detroit series 60 which would be best but I haven't seen a single axle with one of them in it. The others are Cummins ISX which seems to be a dog and the Mercedes which gets mixed reviews.
