So the latest and greatest job once Frosty clears outa towwn, is to continue on with the pilot house ceiling and side panel replacement. Finally (as in for the last and final time) I am replacing the Micarta white fiberboard top and Luan side panels with 1/8" aluminum painted white with Interlux Perfections snow white. The twin handrails overhead were from a junk boat many years ago. Id hafta guess at the tubing OD being about 5/8" with pretty pitted up zamac bases. These probably "fell off" a bayliner or other POS boat at the yard. On the stockpile, I found a new length of 7/8" OD SS tubing and want to replace the bases with SS as well. All the SS junk on ebay is from Fun Tung in Kowszhit china. Any decent U.S. places to shop at? Im staying away from Defender and such as each base is >20.00 This place is in Alaska and seems to be really competitive on the pricing. Anything closer? Hands on is great, and thats how we used to shop. Now its all digital and if you dont like it, tuff titties right? Any advice is appreciated... ws www.go2marine.com/sea-dog-hand-rail-fitting-120-end-for-7-8-od-rail If anyone knows of somewhere that would sell a 6 pc. set (2 fronts, 2 centers, 2 rears or 2-60*, 2 center, and 2-120*s) the better. No rush so far... it was MINUS 12 here this morning hahahaha...

Lately I see custom welded SS or aluminum on the nicer jobs. The sea dog stuff is ok but not top of the line. I sell a little of it. Not too much. If you want a real finished look get a custom welded rail.

That would look nice too Scott, but fastener access is impossible. I dont mind the ol' Traditional yacht look either; it goes with the theme. ws Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Thanks Brian! Just spent two hours going through their list with no luck. They did have some "obscure" stuff even if a bit pricey. Interesting place...ws

Just waiting on a Calipornia importer that handle all incoming stainless from Wun Fung Tung at wshienchozching gulag. I ordered a stupid 300X monocular that was supposedly shipped from San Diego and it took EIGHT LOUSY WEEKS to get here. Its about the size of a fat cigar. Rather disappointed. Maybe this guy can come through. I give a shit where its made, just need domestic shipping instead of going by JUNK. ws mesg.ebay.com/mesgweb/ViewMessageDetail/1/137918167815

Making a little progress here. My handrail ends came in, finally. The guy said they were in his warehouse in OKC, Ok. Uh huh... Delivered here after 6 weeks. Mfgr shipped from the gulag by Junk, through the canal, up the big Muddy to the Red River to Okla fucking Homa... But, I GOTTEM!! They were listed at 11.89 each but got all 6 pcs. for 10.45 each with free shlipping. Ah soooooo. They do look nice and beat the old, used zamac crap I found used 20 years ago! So the panel job is doing well also. About every 5 years, Ive had to replace the pilot house headliner and side panels. The side are cheap CHEAP Luan from retards along with white micarta panels. The white stuff is some kinda masonite BS thats white on one side, and open pn the back. Even though its totally sealed before installing (light blue paint) any hint of moisture gets soaked up and mildews the shit outa it. So now Im 65. I refuse to do this job every 5 years and went with 1/8 (.125") aluminum sheet. I needed THREE 4 x 10 sheets at 390.00 each to get this done. My al guy sells me "drops" and the total was 80.00 He's allowed to grab whatever scrap he wants outa the lugger for himself. Nice. I just had to weld a few pcs together. Im at the point now for topcoat, maybe today. The stuffs all cut out, pre drilled, totally sanded with 80, dewaxed, degreased, and 2 coats of primer (sanded smooth) and ready to paint. Jamestown is backordered for another 6 weeks on Perfections, so I ordered a kit of Epiphanes (snow white) for the job. Sure as hell after placing the order I found a good 3/4 kit from the last job. Ill use that up first today and save the ethanes for later. Using Total Boat stuff for primer. Had pretty good luck at half the cost. Really, I have to give it about 4 stars. So due to a cheap ass forum that only allows 3 pics per post, Ill include the progress in two posts... Spring is just around the last furlong haha... ws Attachment Deleted

It's going to look good when it's done.
Your description of the panels sounds like masonite with white melamine. I used pegboard made from that stuff in the garage. It's holding up pretty well, but naturally, it's not on a boat. The stuff doesn't do well in water.
