Scott is right about this Victron stuff. I just bought a little 12v, 7amp IP67 charger for my generator battery and that thing seems like its really built well. It weighs three times what the POS Promariner weighs that its replacing. And I like the Bluetooth feature to monitor and control it. Very nice unit. And with a 5 year warranty. Who gives you that anymore? Only downfall is MADE IN INDIA. But I guess that's better than China.

Victron seems to be up on usable technology. Useful stuff that isn't too much bells and whistle. They were one of the first to integrate into NMEA2000 and I think they can do Modbus too.
I think it's going to be the brand I use when I start adding inverter and stuff.

I'm a distributor and I do not deal with any tech people outside the us except for the European engineers when we meet for training and the like.
I'm pretty sure I can meet or beat any dealer prices and offer support for systems at a level above mail order resellers.
I'm also pretty sure Amazon is not a dealer. Warranty is only as good as your reseller.

I'll probably call you next week. I may end up going with radar and charplotter as you suggested.
