when i switched my 58yf over to 12 volt i used 3 group 31 batteries per side just to see how it worked out. this setup has worked fine for 6 years, i am getting 3 years out of them. i was thinking of upgrading the batteries since they need replacing now. do yall think i should go back with the group 31 batteries or switch over to an per side? we rarely use the boat without the genset running so major amp hour capacity is not necessary. all light bulbs are led and remember i have the john deere 450 hp six cylinders not the 8v71tis that came with her. the generator has its own battery also.

In trucks and busses, most of the newer models now come with several group 31 as opposed to an 8 D. If you look at the CCA of the batteries, in most cases the group 31 have more starting amps than the 8 D. My dad's Prevost bus with an 8v92, had group 31's in it and we never had an issue, even in sub zero starts. I would not even consider an 8 D since they are such back breakers. But if you already have battery boxes that fit an , then 3 group 24 will fit in there nicely. Group 25 will also fit, but they cost more and are harder to find than the group 24.

Sorry my answer was not sufficient So here is another one: We use Napa batteries in all of our off-road construction equipment. I don't find the to be any better or worse than any other brand but they do stand behind them. On the boat, I have Rolls. They have been great.

I need to change to something different from my 8-d. I have three 8-d boxes made by TODD that are pretty nice, but I'm not attached to them. I can put in two G24 or G34 (Same dimensions but g24 is 1" taller). I don't really need 3 batteries for each motor.
I also could ditch the boxes and go with group 31's. More power, heavier, better overall, and pretty much the same price. I'd have to buy or make new boxes. I haven't seen any off the shelf boxes for double 31's.
I could spend the real money and get maxwell capacitors for each engine.
I plan in the future to do a decent size house bank with hydrbid inverter setup. That will be a year or two away (at least). In the meantime I just need some deep cycles for the house bank.
Any input or other ideas?
