Good cops are retiring. They can't bust a black guy while he's committing a crime without being drug through the shit. For years now the candidates have gotten worse and the only ones left may be problematic buy they have to hire them. There's no others applying.
It's a thankless job and I don't wish that kind of trouble on anyone.
The idea that shooting cops is going to help this is 100% wrong. The next candidates will be less suited to the job.

Oh Horse Shit. I couldn't be more white and I'm 57 years old. The cop problem was alive and well when I was a kid in fact probably worse. NY was really bad probably over 50% power drunk assholes. FL is better but about the same in the lauderdale Miami area. Many if not most who want that job do it for the power. It's a sought after job there are always more applicants than positions. We should be a lot more picky about who we accept. Cops need to start turning in the bad apples themselves.

I can see the police going just like the military. They'll regulate it to the point where it's impossible to do the job and all the capable ones will quit leaving the PC police that are so indoctrinated to stupid rules they will gladly turn on the citizens. Don't think this isn't part of a plan.

Don't think this isn't part of a plan. That may happen but if it does unlike the military it will be the fault of the cops themselves for not cleaning up they're own house. Remember Al Holderoff I think he was chief of Homicide in Suffolk county. Remember what happened to his son in the hands of Suffolk county cops? That wasn't an isolated incident. The only reason it's coming to light now is social media and cell phone video. It's pretty tough to tell your kids police are there to protect us then watch a guy get shot in the back after getting pulled over for a broken tail light. Buying into the idea that cops are always right is just as misguided as buying into the black lives matters crap. I don't think it's a racial thing but there is definitely a problem with law enforcement and it's nothing new. Brian

I agree the abuse of power is a huge problem. Bigger problem is the pi$$-poor training they have. I've been to one of NYPD's ranges and watched them qualify. Not cadets mind you, regular cops. The only thing scarier is watching them clean the guns later. Then you walk around and count the bullet holes in the workbenches, floors and ceilings. The whole program seemed to be built around liability and not how to effectively use the weapon so that in a tense situation they would be confident about their abilities. That leads to fear, panic and spray and pray. I'm reminded of the standoff scene in Pulp Fiction when the toaster popped.

If you stop and think about it with all the rules and enforcers of rules we have to deal with a cop has the most on the spot power. When you get pulled over or detained often there is no one else there to over see it's just you and the cop. Your required by law to do exactly as he says. Yes courts and judges and supervisors can look at the situation later and decide weather or not it was handled properly but at that moment the cop holds all the power. That's a lot of power and with it comes a lot of responsibility. If your going to give someone that kind of power you'd better make sure he or she has better judgement than the average person. Unfortunately the opposite is true. I often wonder if a large percentage of assholes become cops or does being a cop turn a large percentage of them into assholes?

Clockwork Orange anybody? Yes, lots of discretion and power there. It also depends on the local culture. One friend who, granted, is retired and so probably comes from a different era said they try to weed out the guys seeking title power at the academy. However even he agreed the standards are changing. Another friend's son went to the academy in Atlanta. He said they will accept first time felons. Talk about slipping standards.
