Lcruiser, somebody here should be able to tell you what boost pressure you need. It's ok guys, he's a friend of mine and I'm sure he has some stories about the great one....

Check to see if the rack is at or very close to full fuel at WOT under load. If your props are not absorbing 500 HP then your not producing 500HP which would explain the low air box pressure. You can check this by removing the buffer screw run it up and use a pencil or wood stick to push in on the fuel lever. If it goes up any more than 25 RPM then it's probably not producing rated power. Don't push it up much past 2400. Brian Brian I am turning 2400RPM WOT with 550HP 6V92TA's. Props should be 28x30 4 blades and I am turning 28x28 four blades. Is there any issue with them being underloaded that much? I usually run between 1950-2000rpm and the only downside I've seen is I run a bit cool, around 165. My mechanic is putting in higher temp thermostats to get the temps up a bit. I think he said they are 170 or 172 degrees. No at 1900 RPM your loading the engines enough no worries. Being under propped is only an issue below 1500 RPM and then only if your running like that all the time. 165 degrees is just slightly low I would leave that alone. The 92s are very critical with high temps (wet liner). So if your running 180 and pick up a bag on the intake or wipe out an impeller there's very little time before your way to hot and in danger of doing damage. Running on the low side of the temp range I think is a good thing. Brian

Thanks. Most of the time I'm running 1950-2000rpm or at idle for the no wake zones heading out and back.

@salty.. just out of curiousity what injectors do you have??? you have twin dry turbos? BTW.... I disconnected those damn valve cover hoses going to the airseps long ago into a homemade filter element, same thing with airbox drains...nasty stuff in both... yuck...

Not sure what injectors but I can find out this weekend. I have the single big wet turbos. I think all the 550HP versions use wet turbos.

banned.. Can you elaborate more on the lower rpm issues. We cruise a lot around 1100 rpm's... maybe that's bad, if so I'd like to understand all the nitty gritty details...some of us "poor folk" try and save the fuel burn rate... krush... Thanks "punk"... ... I haven't spilled the beans on "you know who"... I didn't want to freak everyone out, "yet"... LOL.... that can of worms will make a few PUKE...

The easiest way to get my take on it is to go over to HOF and look up a thread called Larger Props for running big engines slow or something close to that it's all there. Brian
