I cant believe its been 5 weeks here since an update. Tons of interior house stuff going on, OJ was gifted twins and has his hands full and of course a myriad of doctors appointments. That list keeps growong as well Finally got the trans put back together. Made a drive device for the bench using a 1/2" 3/4 HP drill. It runs at 700 rpm, so all I could test was F-N-R which was smooth and quiet. Got a 30 minute break in run and even the freewheeling clutches are providing less clutch drag in neutral. The gear is in and secured, but while the motor is jacked up, I am changing out the copper cooling lines for hose. Originally a pal suggested replacing the OEM old hoses with copper. "You can polish it and make it look sahweet..". Yeah, OK. I am now into AN-8 hose (blue stuff with new fittings) for about $85. The copper to the coolers restricted movement on sea water pump swaps as well. While OJ was down there he noticed some bad Ju-Ju... I knew there was a cracked manifold by the drain plug but he grabs pics for me of the forbidden zone. I just picked up a Merc 454 top end from a jet boat for $100 last year. Just another brick in the wall LOL... Wheres mikepussy with his doubled and opposing hose clamps? The back end of this unit is up about 5 inches and impossible to access.

It was a perfect extraction; no novacaine and my pliers only slipped once; PINCHED my cheek LOL. These motors have been in since1990, and out once in 2000 for rings, bearings and valves. These are 1974 Merc 454s. 330 HP. So after the overheat last summer and taking the trans with it, I knew the OB exhaust manifold had a crack too. Got that off today and 6 of the 8 bolts came out pretty easy. #7 was rust wasted down to 14mm from 9/16 and #8 broke off. The part was mounted om 6 inch studs for removal. We slid it off and unscrewed the busted bolt with a 6 inch pipe wrench. Probably rust seized in the hole through the manifold. As we were leaving, I had OJ toss it 20 feet to the ground and all we got was a THUD. Not even a bounce and it didnt bust in half. Damn. Now we hafta take a close look at the IB unit. Changing valve cover gaskets at the same time. Not too bad for 25 years of neglected service!

You mean Hope it doesn't get stolen again. The sign, or the election? I always service the flag at the dock with a new one yearly from the AMVETS. Took the old one down and ran the Trump flag up the pole. The owner of the building called me before I got home and said there were some complaints/comments about it. One being from an office renter in the building that happens to be the DT campaign HQ for TR. Chris the owner is also a patriot and laughed but knew it was me and asked me to take it down as not to ruffle any feathers. Gotta love small town livin'!!

Just a factoid: I always downsize my camera pics from 16MGPs to 15% which nets about 150 KB. These are Scotts (OJs) phone pics at almost 200 KB and take up more screen width. Gotta scroll around to see the whole thing. Click on my small ones for a page fit picture. Gotta love AI right??
