Hmmmm,... That dashpad is lookin' mighty crack-free...
Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep it on hand as a resource. It's sad that these cars are so worthless. But on the plus side it means a ready supply of parts.
I'm working with a guy from a truck forum who's parting out a red '84. Unfortunately, like this guy, he's pretty far away in New Mexico. But he's offering good prices on anything that can be boxed and shipped.
I think I'm going to bring the dashpad to an upholstery shop and throw money at the problem. It's money I don't want to spend, but "while you're in there.

Cool. See if he's amenable to boxing and shipping large objects. Also ask what rear it's got. A Dana 44 would be worth some effort. Probably a D36 tho. If he doesn't know, ask what transmission it had. Manual would be a D44.

I have a 3.07 and an auto, so nothing lost. The frieght would be more than the dashpad would be worth anyway. Thanks for looking.
I'll probably catch grief for this, but I really like yellow. Unimaginative school bus, taxi and banana jokes aside. Red ain't my favorite color, but there is that song. Either one is a cop magnet so makes no never mind. Problem with used cars tho... you don't gets a choice. I would never have picked black for the Mighty TDI either.

No work to report, but I got a care package from a friend in New Mexico who's parting out a red '84. It doesn't look like much, but I got the wheel tubs that go in the hood to keep $#it from spraying everywhere when it's wet. Got the air dams that are also missing from mine, and a new cruise actuator, since mine looks like it was removed with a shovel. And one of the best pieces is the vacuum harness for the climate control that hasn't been chewed by rodents. Now I just have to figure out where all that goes to that's buried in the dash. He also threw in the ECM and Cluster, so now I have spares. Or at least spare parts if they test bad. I'm going to try plugging them in before I button the whole dash back up.

AND... it all came in a turbocharger box; how cool is that daddio??? What says Turbochargers is the decklid of the car that my buddy used to race. In addition to being his crew chief I was a sponsor, so our name was on the decklid. I thought it would help business, but nothing ever came of it. When the car got reskinned I got the old decklid. I'm still trying to find a good way to hang it on the wall in the lobby.

Speaking of parts, it seems like I'm in limbo, just collecting parts. Other things are a bigger priority to work on right now, but there's Black Friday sales. So, I ordered a new brake booster and a few other minor items. At least they'll be in stock when I start working on the car again.
