That little generator is so cute. Isn't it though? Sometimes when I'm looking at it, it makes me think that, yeah, it's TINY, but yet it still has all the systems and accessories that a larger generator has. Some of it is miniature, but a lot of it is full size, like the alternator, and all has to be crammed into a tiny package and it all has to work. Look at the heat exchanger, it's only 3 inches in diameter and less than a foot and a half long, yet it's four-pass with all the fittings, drains and a zinc plug that you'd see on a larger piece. Westerbeke doesn't put it in the specs, but if it's like the Kohler 5kW it has to shed about 480 Btu/min. That's 8.5Kw in rejected energy, so to paraphrase Bill The Bard, though it be but little, it is fierce. And the later BCD generators with the "pancake" back ends are even smaller. BTW, You've given me an idea for a "Stupid Generator Trick" when we're ready to put it on the ground. I'll keep you in suspense until then.

There's a number of considerations to adapt this beast to stationary operation. A lot of them involve the cooling system. We're a little ahead of the curve on the radiator deal since we have a radiator. We have no idea how it's going to be installed, but we have a radiator. That's a start on the "raw water" side of the system. There are also considerations for the "freshwater system." On a boat the coolant recovery bottle is probably screwed to a bulkhead somewhere. While I referred to this as a stationary application it's more of a movable stationary application because we just don't have the space to leave it parked in a functional location. Because of that we can't attach the tank to a wall. It would be best if we could find a way to attach it to the generator so it can do it's job without having to be clipped, clamped, or otherwise cobbled. While I was dealing with the manifold/coolant reservoir I noticed that the studs had a long end and a short end. So by installing them with the long end out in some spots where they were supposed to be short I can create a mounting point. That, some coupling nuts, flathead screws and a surplus piece of diamond plate gives us a place to keep the expanding coolant safe. And in following the teachings of our mentor Yachsmanwilly I have dutifully broken the edges and rounded the corners of the plate to prevent injury. Thanks Bill.

Raw water fresh water I'm confused aren't you just going to hook up a radiator with a 120V fan? where does raw water play into it?

I'm speaking figuratively. Since the heat exchanger is still involved in the cooling I'm referring to what would be the raw water side of the system as raw even though it too will be running antifreeze.

Im still confused assuming the heat exchanger is integral with the manifold don’t you just cap it off? There isn’t going to be any raw water pump right?

Yes. Still planning on a raw water pump.
I'm keeping the heat exchanger functional because I want the option of either a home heat source or driveway heating option. So for now they will remain separate systems.

Nice when its 50F and froggy on the sound but dont forget July or August.
Love ya Scrod! You always manage to give green stamps when their due LOL. If I were around I wouldve been happy to fab a DP mount for ya. Got any 1/4 x 20 acorn nuts for that panhead screw thats ready to gash yer hand open in a seaway??? (hint) Mikepussy wont use them...

No I'm seriously looking at winding a bunch of Pex when I repave. I need the BTUs that the engine rejects to coolant. If that doesn't pan out I'll do a heat exchanger for the hot water heat in the house.
Since we keep electing Democrats I really believe bad times are coming. Even if that's paranoid, I'm more comfortable having some reserves for whatever.
