Thanks Chris, it's a different world we live in now. I didnt know until yesterday that the day my husband and I went that President George Bush and the first lady were there on the same day. We didnt get searched or anything. Now a days they search you, dogs sniffing you and then still dont let you in unless you are on the elite list. Every President in modern history has always laid a wreath on the tomb of the unknown solider on Memorial Day. Last year the person we have in office decided he wanted to go home for a vacation so he decided to go to Abraham National Cemetary instead. That is the cemetary my husband is buried at. All I wanted to do is visit his grave and pay my respects...but no. Because of the jerko the rules where changed. You had to be bussed in and could only go to were they told us to go. No visiting graves or even this beautiful park they have at the cemetary. Needless to say, I did not go pay my respect. Oh, I forgot, they closed the cemetary the day before so I couldnt go the day before either. I laughed when I heard they had to cancel the service early because of a tornado alert. Sorry ppat

I've read and watched so much about WW2 and the difference in attitude between then and now is simply amazing. Back then it seems like virtually every American citizen was bonded together with one common purpose. The complete and total destruction of our enemies. We put the Japanese in internment camps. We degraded them and called them nips we called Germans croutes and made funny cartoons about them. Imagine that today.
I was born to late to be subject to the draft. Honestly I can't imagine getting a letter and being forced to give up 2 years of my life.
Today if any of my kids wanted to join the military I'd do my best to talk them out of it. It's a noble pursuit and the military itself is fine. The problem is your under the control of people who can't be trusted and will screw you to advance they're own careers or ideologies.
I wonder if " The greatest generation" ever looks back and wonders why they sacrificed so much?

Seems my sons deployments in Afghanistan triggered some of his long buried memories. Says if he knew what he knows now he would have punctured his ear drums like all the 4F's did and stayed here and cashed in and got laid.

Yes, there is a special building with a memorial to the OKLAHOMA right next to where the Mighty Mo sits. I did not have time to see it when I was there, but we are going back in April and I hope to check that out.

Yeah... imagine the OSS strategics of forensics involved with surveying damage to even the totaled ships; This is a hull plating damage survey due to torpedo hits on the USS CALIFORNIA. I believe she was refitted and lived to see more combat. Now, I'll need to research that one... Hmmm... ws
